Nadi is where most visitors hear their
first BULA. The colorful marketplace, located only a
few minutes drive from the airport, features yaqona
stalls, homemade souvenirs and local culture. Nadi is
also the gateway to the Mamanuca Group where you will
find exquisite island resorts as well as laid back surfer
camps and budget accommodation.
One of the largest towns and most visitors first stop
in Fiji. Nadi Beach is a wide strand, perfect for lazing
in the sun and watching sunsets. Nearby Natadola Beach
is Fiji’s most spectacular and is popular for
swimming and body surfing. Places to visit in Nadi include
Sri Siva Subramaniya, largest Hindu temple in the Southern
hemisphere, the Sleeping Giant and orchid gardens. Ferries
leave Nadi for the Mamanuca Islands.
Nadi International Airport is located 9 kilometers from
the town, is the largest airport in Fiji and is served
by Air Pacific (the international airline of Fiji),
Air New Zealand, Pacific Blue, Korean Air and some other
domestic airlines such as Pacific Sun and Air
Fiji.
The recently elected Administrator of Nadi Town Council,
Mr.
Aisea Tuidraki has great plans for the town of
his birth.
Nadi is already the fastest growing town in the entire
South Pacific.
Mr.
Aisea Tuidraki wants Nadi to be the biggest and
most exciting city in the South Pacific in the near
future and welcome any advice and contributions from
the ratepayers and the public at large.
Nadi has a 10 year Town Planning scheme and a 10 year
corporate strategic plan to progress objectively
and systematically taking into consideration the financial
constraints the town faces.
The Chief Executive Officer of Nadi Town Council, Mr
Robin Ali, has taken the best possible approach as regards
the obligation made by the Ministry to formulate a corporate
plan. It has turned an order into an initiative and
a burden into an opportunity. Instead of resenting this
directive, it has seen it as a blessing in disguise
that would give him the pretext to do an exercise which
he knew that he would be the first beneficiary and user.
His deep understanding of the necessity to think strategically
derives from his capacity to have a broad perspective
of the problems of the town. Trained at the old school
of Health Inspectors, his jack-of-all trade profile,
which allows him to switch easily from one field to
the next is no doubt an asset. Furthermore, the town
of Nadi is expanding quickly and finds itself in a transition,
which has created many expectations among the population,
but not an equivalent change in the conduct of the municipal
business. The CEO has been supportive of the exercise
and tried to accommodate the workload which it created.
Giving sometimes the feeling to try to catch permanently
with the late internal and external development in a
kind of race against time, he has nevertheless taken
the time to show his commitment.
